February is when I'm accustomed to seeing the first flowers, often Columbia Kittentails. A little earlier than usual this year.

I've never seen kittentails in February. But then I've only ever seen them on top of Dog Mountain, where the season is later due to the elevation.

Saw both of these blooming at the end of January while doing trail work (grass widows at McCall Point and kittentails at the cliffs near Upper McCord Creek Falls). Snow queen is also blooming at some lower level elevations as well as toothwort, coltsfoot, and woods violets.

Do you know which violet exactly? That common name covers a lot of ground!

Those two drive me nuts.
