Re: More fees in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest
I was at a meeting a while back when the groups who represent the people who use these facilities were there and generally supported this. These facilities are degrading and without the fees they will become unusable or have to be closed. People want these facilities and they want them maintained better. I know that folks wish that there general funds would cover these, but they don't. Despite rising fees for so many things, facilities that cost money to use but have more amenities are packed with people willing and anxious to pay. Just try getting a reservation at those places that take them. And look how packed our state parks are that cost a lot more than Federal facilities. This is what a clear majority of users want. They want bathrooms that are cleaned and stocked regularly and so much more. But people who want to camp for free, including car camping, still have a vast territory to do so, especially in the GP.
