What's on your hiking "to-do" list?

Post by jeffstatt » July 8th, 2008, 7:56 am

We did this a year ago or so. I thought I'd start this topic again

On my to-do list for this summer:
1) get up Mt St Helens again
2) Lemei Rock
3) Familty hike up Sleeping Beauty
4) The Enchantments (got my permits for Sept!)
5) Backpack with 9 yr old at Memaloose Lake
6) Climb Mt Thielsen or Mt Scott

Future Plans:
1) Mt Adams summit
2) Goat Rocks Backpack
3) Yokum Ridge
4) PCT hike from Olallie Lake into Jefferson Park.

Since I only have 5 weeks left of my summer vacation...this is a good idea.
Hmmm...

Ramona Falls
Umbrella Falls and area
Panther Creek Falls
Wyeth Trail to North Lake
Twin Pillars (Near Prineville while visiting my daughter)
Steins Pillar (also near Prineville)
Chain Lakes Trail (Mount Baker National Forest Going in August)
Indian Point
Indian Heaven if the snow ever clears!

I'd also like to find a snowfree hike in the Mount Jefferson or Mount Washington area to hike while visiting my daughter, but I'm not too familiar with that area. I'm still researching just now...any suggestions?
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. ~John Muir

Meet exhilarating, stimulating people.

See a cougar.

See a giant salamander.

See the stars.

Get that line back between my calf muscles.

Be surprised by unexpected beauty in the wild.

Be surprised by overwhelming generosity in fellow hikers.

Feel like 25 in my legs, 40 in my head, and 75 in my patience.

Enjoy a backpack that fits.

Enjoy a naked hot springs moment. Or two.

Feel a minor earthquake near Mt. St. Helens.

Bonfire on the beach.

Falling asleep to the sound of the waves after the bonfire on the beach.

Coming to someone's rescue on the trail.

Feeling strong.

Feeling blessed.

Superior trail mix.

PS: Trails to these places are all negotiable. ;-)

1. Traverse the high gorge from Salvation Ridge th to Angels rest TH. I still need to check out the section between Tanner butte and Nesmith before doing this so it may not happen this Summer.
2. Circumnavigate Hood in a day.
3. Some kind of overnighter with my dog.

Hey joerunner, whatever, man. Circumnavigate the globe in a day and then I'll be impressed. And no cheating at the poles, either.

Already written in ink:

- a week of car camping with my wife, during which we'll take a short day hike each day.
- 4 nights backpacking in the Olympics with my brother, up the Enchanted Valley trail.
- two weeks of solo backpacking in the Eagle Cap wilderness, broken into two long loop hikes.

That takes me to the middle of August. I might be able to squeeze in one more two-nighter before I resume work in September, but that's only if the chores haven't piled up neck deep.
