Salmon Butte TH disruption

Post by squidvicious » June 19th, 2019, 2:19 pm

Had a bit of a surprise when I arrived at the Salmon Butte TH this morning. There is a stream restoration project in progress, June 10-28 according to the signs. The trail is open, but the parking area is closed and being used as a staging area for logs and heavy equipment. Had no problem with parking along the road today, but I can see it being more of an issue on a weekend.

Around the TH and start of the trail things are a bit muddy and torn up from the equipment. When I left they were tearing out trees just over the bridge to clear a path down to the water (for which the fish biologist I spoke briefly with was deeply sorry). I also encountered a log truck that was headed in with a fresh load, so just driving down to there or the Salmon River trail(s) might be a little "exciting" for the next little bit.

All in all, it's open and you can go, but you might not want to for another week or so.
