Bad news, I found a tick crawling on me while hiking in the Memaloose Hills area today. So much for early season nonchalance.
Swale Canyon, late-January. They're out there!!

So dinky, I measured it by counting threads on my pants.
Back on the trail, again...

I got one on the Rogue River. Maybe I removed it within 24 hours? Used those tweezers to remove it. My arm swelled up some. I took a couple Ibuprofen and an antihistamine.

The Lyle Cherry Orchard is also known as the Columbia Gorge Tick Preserve. Last year was a mast year, when oaks bear a bumper crop of acorns. That drives a rodent population explosion. Coupled with the warm winter, lots of ticks will be with us this year.

Got one on Hamilton Mountain today. Felt it bite my thigh.
