where to go next weekend?

Post by AnderlSp » February 20th, 2019, 1:36 pm

Hi,
I'm from Germany and will pass next weekend 23/24 of February in Tigard.
I'm wondering, if you could recommend a hike or something else to do on the probably rainy weekend.
Any idea is more than welcome.
Thanks
Andreas

Welcome! Hope you enjoy your visit.

A couple questions:
Will you have a car? Are you comfortable with snow/winter conditions?

If no car, I would recommend Tryon Creek State Park or one of the many trails in Forest Park... all accessible with transit.

If you have a car, the Coast could be a good bet, as long as it's not too cold or rainy or windy. There are many options, but one of my favorites is Bayocean Spit (mentioned in the Field Guide).

If you are prepared for snow and have a vehicle that can handle snow, I love the Salmon River trail in winter (Salmon River Hike in the Field Guide), at least the lower couple miles depending on conditions. The last few miles of the road aren't plowed, but it's frequented enough that the road is usually generally accessible.
