Backpacking Along Gales Creek?

Post by leiavoia » February 8th, 2019, 8:53 pm

Gales Creek / Story Burn is pretty close to Beaverton, so i'm wondering if anyone has done a backpack trip in or around that area. Based on descriptions and reports, I can't tell if there are overnight camping options or not. It would be a good location for Winter outings and for newbies to get their act together.

Failing that, any good local Winter-friendly backpacking options you would like to suggest? I'm not looking for anything heavy, just something to get outside.

Thanks!

I’m curious about Gales creek for backpacking, too, so am looking forward to other’s responses.
From having hiked the first half of the trail, it seems wet, dense, and just steep enough to make dispersed camping difficult. The distance to reeher’s camp seems reasonable, about 10 miles, but does cause you to drop basically all the elevation you just gained. Also, Reeher’s camp costs $20 for a site, and is open May through September. A call could clarify if it’s permissible to hike-in and use the camp during the off season.
