Looking for a new Lighter weight tent
Re: Looking for a new Lighter weight tent
PS! I was at the Mountain Shop in Portland today and they currently have some 2017 Six Moon tents on sale - 20% off.....
Re: Looking for a new Lighter weight tent
Last time I spent a night on Yocum (7000'?) I didn't bring a tent.
There, that should shut down this discussion!
My general approach to things (all things, not just recreational gear) is keep it simple, emphasize the essential. Sadly, consumers are robbed of that option by an industry that foists complexity on us. More bells! More whistles! More weight! More cost!
It's been a while, but didn't Jerry once post about making his own tent?
Tip: before you consider buying a bivy sack, try to borrow one for a trial. Lord, what a miserable way to spend a night.

Nope. We each get to choose what we want or don't want. I've cowboy camped for weeks at a time with nothing but a plastic tube tent as bad weather backup. I was a lot younger then. I don't do that any more, but it isn't because I was "robbed" of that choice by the outdoor equipment industry. I now prefer to have a 2.5 lb. solo tent.

Yeah, been there done that too.
That being said my better half requires an enclosed bug free nights sleep. It's a small price to ask considering all my other antics that she has to put up with
