Jerry, I'm confused. Is there a route across Reid canyon up that high? How did you get from PP to Yokum?

via Ramona Falls :)

I did go up to 6800 feet above Paradise and scope out a route direct to Yocum, but I think I'll pass. I think it would help if the snow was just right like maybe now, some places will be more difficult when it melts out

People do a ski-around-MtHood loop that crosses Reid up high (maybe about now) before it melts out. I think there is a pretty tight window. I’m an advanced skier though and I’m not sure I’d be up for that traverse.

Yeah, I'm aware of the secret Ramona route, Jerry ;). Just didn't think you'd do PP and Yocum in a day via the standard routes.

Anyway, yeah, the easiest Reid crossing is at Illumination, and then the crest of Yocum is accessible without too much trouble, if snow conditions are good. But Jerry said he was lower than that.

PP Tuesday night
up to 6800, explored around a little, back down to Ramona Falls Wednesday night
up Yocum Ridge, then part way back down Thursday night

I am fine with doing just 8 miles in a day

Went up to Lake Wapiki, 5200', on the east side of Indian Heaven. Patchy snow the last mile, some fairly big patches the last quarter mile, but nothing that should impact finding the trail. The lake is fully melted out, as are many of the campsites, but it's very boggy getting to the camps on the south side and the mosquitoes are out too. We didn't head above the lake, but the ridge looked mostly snowfree.

Looking at Wallowas' west side, ~ 15 mi north of Baker City. Not much snow left there.

I also went up on Mt Adams last weekend, to The Bumper at 6500 feet. Took Stagman Ridge to Horseshoe Meadows at 5900' - no snow there and trail cleared. More snow for the last mile to The Bumper. Of course more snow on other sides of Mt Adams, but snow melt maybe 3 weeks ahead of average now, after having above-average snowpack in April.

That view would be the mostly southwestern facing slopes at the southern end of the wilderness?

True.
