Seems like I've had a lot of damp hikes lately. Maybe it's just selective memory though. Let's see what my hiking log shows:
5/13: wet
5/6: wet
4/29: wet
4/23: wet
4/15: wet
4/14: wet
4/9: wet
4/1: wet
3/25: wet
3/19: wet
3/12: dry? (cant remember for sure)
3/5: wet
2/26: wet
2/25: dry
2/19: wet
What the hell?!
("wet" = precip forecast, packed and dressed for precip, received the anticipated precip)
soggy (in which I bitch about the inevitable)

Respect for still heading out. At this point, I'm very much struggling to grin and bear it and get out on principle. Hopefully soon. Please.

yeah, there haven't been any long stretches without rain since October, and September was really rainy on two trips I did which is unusual
there's supposed to be a week stretch without rain starting Wednesday

It's been pretty wet, for sure. This is from Mark Nelsen's weather blog on Sunday:
Even if it we get a nice sunny summer, the hiking options are going to be limited until August, at best. There is so much snow in the mountains, and it just keeps falling.
And then there was Mark's depressing April 3 tweet showing how we'd only had six clear days in the six month period between October 1 and March 31.As of midday this Sunday, the 13.00" precipitation (mainly rain) that has fallen since March 1st is the MOST WE'VE EVER SEEN IN A SPRING THROUGH MID-MAY! That's pretty bad. The airport records go back to the late 1930s…so that's just about 80 years.

One hopeful thought, is that when it gets hot, like in July, the snow quickly melts. Even if there's a lot of snow. Maybe the hiking season will be delayed by a couple weeks.

Ever the optimist! At the moment I'd say everything is running about five weeks later than average.

Location, location, location.
I've got a nice tan from my hiking in the Gorge this past month. I do agree that it has been the soggiest year this Boomer can remember, but being selective by driving further to the east has had its rewards. Here it is mid-May and the meadows in Graham Oaks (Wilsonville) are still leaking onto the trail.
I fear how muggy it will be when the mercury gets into the mid-eighties or higher.

So is everybody, including the OP, going to be complaining about the heat next week?

Heck no! I know others may disagree, but at this point I welcome a bit of a heat wave.drm wrote:So is everybody, including the OP, going to be complaining about the heat next week?
