Has anyone else noticed the white object on the west slope of Crown Point, maybe 200 feet below the crest? Here's a crappy photo taken with my phone from I-84 -- it's actually quite prominent, though not so great in this shot:
There's actually another object further down the slope -- maybe 500 feet from the top. Is this something that has been up there for awhile, and now suddenly visible? I'm almost wondering if it's a car that was pushed over the side at some point, though I'm not sure that would be possible with the stone walls lining the approach from the west to the Vista House....
Hmm....

tom,
It's been there for awhile - I think it's a pu cover.
I'll go check it out in a few days.

Re: Mystery white object on Crown Point..?
there has been trash in that gully for years
Re: Mystery white object on Crown Point..?
I once lost my hat there to wind (only it was black). With the gusts Crown Point gets on winter, I think there's lots of useful and not so useful stuff in this gully.

Re: Mystery white object on Crown Point..?
Mystery object sent down the cliff today. The plan was to haul it up to the road but it was way too heavy. I hope I got the right one! It was a pickup bed cover. I was surprised to find no less than seven pickup bed covers in the ravine and one bed liner. I sent one other cover and the bed liner down the slope too. Hopefully to a location where they may be removable from below.
I ran out of time today so was not able to verify if said object is no longer visible from afar.

Wow! Excellent, Don! Thank you!
I haven't done one of these in awhile, but you are clearly deserving of....
This much-coveted award is ready for printing and sticking to your fridge..!
It makes sense that junk like bed covers, liners and tarps would end up down there -- undoubtedly lifted out of trucks parked or simply driving along the highway above during the worst wind conditions... though I never would have guessed that! Bizarre..!

Tom,
Thanks so much for the accolades! Now prominently displayed on my refrigerator:
Romann: I found a wealth of things in the gully. Some of what I took out pictured here. Nice reusable shopping bag, really nice furry thing, some ones ID card, a hand-knitted hat and a nice black hat. It this your hat?
Here are a few pics from the adventure:
Pu bed liner:
The offending white bed cover just before it plunged down the hill:
A couple more bed covers:
And even a kitchen sink!
The picnic table Mandrake mentioned:
Next project will be to head up the gully from below to see what's in there and where the covers ended up.

What an interesting mix! For the most part, these are all items that I can see getting whipped away by the a blast of wind... not sure about the picnic table, though... that might be the work of vandals. There must be hundreds of hats down there from unsuspecting tourists, right...?
