FYI:
As of today, Nov 27...
There is some problem with the Benson Bridge so the Larch Mtn trail was closed at the lodge.
The access trail from the Multnomah Lodge parking lot to Wahkeena was also closed due to the construction at the Wahkeena Trailhead - this access trail closure must have been in effect for quite some time I just never noticed it.
And just today, a slide has blocked Oneonta Trail preventing access from the highway to Triple Falls and points south. Forest Service was on site.

Thanks for the update. That will throw a monkey wrench into many hiking plans this weekend

Just saw that on the news:

Is this a new slide on the Oneonta Trail or is it the same one that Edan told us about in early November?

Never say that our local geology isn't active!

The gate to the Benson was closed this morning when I was there so maybe there is nothing wrong with the bridge and it this slide that is the problem.Grannyhiker wrote:Just saw that on the news:

Now that I look at that post, it is likely the same slide on Oneonta I didn't stop to chat with the FS person - so he was probably up there just to shoo people away.
So I guess I have nothing new to report just that things that were closed yesterday are still closed today and will likely be closed tomorrow.

Re: Closed: Benson Bridge, Mult/Wahkeena access, Triple Fall
The news story says that the slide is between the bridge & the 400 trail. If that is the case then the Larch Mt. Trail could still be accessed from that little TH half a mile East of Multnomah Falls that would bring you out above the slide.

I thought this would be an option but I'm not sure where it is, never been on it, got a waypoint for it?Guy wrote:The news story says that the slide is between the bridge & the 400 trail. Does anyone know if the Wahkeena > Multnomah return trail still closed?

Paul, the 400 Trail hits the highway about half a mile past Multnomah Falls, about here:
N45 34.764 W122 06.420
There is a pullout big enough for 3 or 4 cars, rarely any cars there though.
@ Peabody, I believe so.

Ok, I know where the turnout is, problem is I want to park at the lodge but the viaduct between the lodge and the point you mention is not good for peds (BTW the point you sent looks to be the start of elevator shaft). Here's what I plan to investigate, the 'Bypass to 400' route in the snapshot below - and I think people were doing this when the Benson was being repaired recently. Lidar says it should be good.

Let me know how it works out, we have our Christmas Pot Luck Hike to the Christmas Trail coming up soon so I may need that bypass depending on Repair time.
