Earth's Crammed with Heaven

Post by Luv2Kayak » July 26th, 2013, 5:54 pm

Hi, all! There's an article at OregonLive.com that I'd like to share with you, as I feel the folks here could relate to the concept of "Thin Places" -- the Celtic notion that heaven and earth occasionally overlap. Our friend Scott Dietz is such a terrific photographer, and has an exhibition this month in the lobby of the Academy Theater in SE Portland. That runs through this next Wednesday, I believe. The Oregonian article also refers to a presentation (on Sunday) he's giving about the photos and his spiritual journey, at 11 a.m. at Reedwood Friends:

Being the proud owner of so many of the Portland Hikers calendars (and seeing the photos posted here), I know that there is a tremendous amount of talent in this group. What I really appreciate about Scott's work is "The Narrative Image". I love to read the writing on his blog that accompanies the wonderful stories he tells with photographs.

The image included with the Oregonian article is of the Broadway Bridge... however, most of the photos in the exhibition were taken while he was out hiking or kayaking. Btw, his photo taken on the Eagle Creek Trail won the Oregonian's Travel Photo contest a few years back. :-)

If you're not out hiking on Sunday morning, then I invite you to come and meet Scott, and share YOUR experience of the Thin Places. :-)

Whatever one's concept of God is, I bet that most of us here feel closer to a "higher power" when we're on the trail. Right? :-)
