Map of active fire lookouts

Post by Peabody » November 4th, 2013, 8:24 pm

Having way way way to much idle time on my hands..........

I created a map showing current active lookouts in Oregon.

See it here

I did it using GIS data from here

and ArcGIS

To hear the ESRI guys say it, a map like that oughta only take a few minutes, eh?

Very nice! I really need to spend some more time with that tool. I've sorta been holding off hoping they'd do something to make the popups a bit more flexible. (Are they still pretty much limited to just a field dump from the selected record?) For example, the sort of direction I'd like to take a map of that sort would be to start adding photos, links, maybe a more stylized description, etc. Hmmm, I guess I'm describing the Google Maps balloons... :)

Very cool! I'm surprised to see there are so many that are still operating.
