For the map geeks in the crowd...

A Cloudless Atlas — How MapBox Aims to Make the World's 'Most Beautiful Map'

Wired wrote:“In the end this is a lot more than just making a pretty map, this is about analyzing huge sets of data, wicked fast,” Gundersen writes in an email. “Our current fast rendering stack and cloud infrastructure show how much data we can process — later this summer you are going to see some of our infrared analysis work coming out thanks to our existing stack. This space is wide open and the traditional satellite companies don’t get it, they’re stuck selling pixels — you have to be a software company to leverage big data.”
In a word, stunning! Viva la open sores! :D

Two years worth of imagery, of just a small spot on the globe.

Processed to beat the band!

Slapped altogether, with a few artifacts removed, and they end up with the most real image ever synthesized. Un-be-liev-able!
