Excellent old book recommendation!

Post by chameleon » December 30th, 2010, 11:20 pm

I've been enjoying my research on the Gorge, and have found so many incredible books. I wanted to recommend one in particular for folks on this forum who love the Gorge. It's probably not in print, but I'm sure lots of copies are available online. It's called Bridge of the Gods, Mountains of Fire, by Chuck Williams. The copyright is 1980.

On the whole, it is the single best book I've found on the Gorge. Williams has a very readable style, and covers a myriad of topics, such as Indian and pioneer history. He also includes an amazing selection of historic OHS photos (in addition to many of his own).

In all, it's a phenomonal book! It answers a lot of questions about the area. If you can find a copy, I more than recommend picking it up!

I've seen that book before.

Tourist places in the gorge.

Maybe the gift shop at the Charburger in Cascade Locks or Multnomah Falls gift shop.

Zach - Thank you for the recommendation, I have added it to my "to read" list. For anybody who is interested, there is one copy left at Powell's Books for $16.95!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check it out. Multnomah County library has several copies as well.
