"Hassan Chop!"

Post by anna in boots » March 25th, 2010, 6:24 pm

On a hike up Angel's Rest, conversation naturally turned to bizarre trivia from our past and the expression "Hassan Chop!" emerged in conversation. None of us could pinpoint the origin of this nonetheless solid memory. Well, Google is a powerful god. Look what I turned up:

PS: After reading Mel Blanc's autobiography, I have immense respect for the man, especially now that I realize that every single voice in that clip was recorded by him, in real time. Yowza! Yeah, he was a troublemaker in school, too; all us geniuses were. If you wish to be similarly illuminated, I recommend his memoirs--probably the most entertaining and human autobiography on the planet: http://www.amazon.com/Thats-Not-All-Fol ... 0446390895 Seriously, you won't want to put it down. For instance, did you know he got his start in Portland, Oregon?!

PPS: Blanc admitted, of all the voices he characterized (over 700!), his own voice most closely resembles Daffy Duck.

One of my favorites. Consider, all these classic cartoons were individually written, hand painted and hand drawn, frame by frame, by an army of minimum wage artists, and in most cases, every single voice you hear was characterized by Mel Blanc, except in the cases of female voices.

More favorites:
