it's going to be an itchy summer
Re: it's going to be an itchy summer
I guess my point is that I use a two person tent. Obviously it weighs more, but has room to move around, change out of sweaty clothes, etc. Especially on trips that are likely to be very buggy that might require spending more time in the tent, I want that space.

I just spent a couple days in the Calapooya Mountains (Lane/Douglas County), and the bugs weren't too bad, except near water around sunset.

Well, of course - if you are slumming in the lowlands. Those of us with a hankering to get up in the alpine in the very short window when it is accessible have to fight off the little vampires, or use chemicals to fight them off.Don Nelsen wrote: ↑August 6th, 2022, 10:23 amThursday, I hiked a long loop including Devil's Rest and saw nary a mosquito.

Yeah, I've been dumpster diving a lot lately since the little buggers seem to have finally exited the lowlands.drm wrote: ↑August 6th, 2022, 2:19 pmWell, of course - if you are slumming in the lowlands. Oh, they're still out in force around Frenchman's Bar depending where you go...
In fact three of the little f----s followed me into one of the bathrooms there yesterday where they met their untimely demise.

Surprise, surprise: McNeil Point today from the McGee Cr. TH and only one mosquito seen - and, summarily dispatched. There were a few biting flies and one got me but not bad. Kel was completely unscathed. TR later.

My dad was at Trapper Creek getting huckleberries last Friday and he said they weren't that bad there. I think he said he only squished five the entire afternoon. The flies were another story.

Pamelia Lake up to Hunts Lake 8/20. Wonderfully, no mosquitoes to be seen or felt! Bug free!
Quite the contrast compared with 6 weeks ago nearby at Duffy Lake. Couldn’t escape them!

Running just as fast as I can
Trying to get out of mosquito land
Trying to get away into the night
Then they stab me with their pokers and they take another bite and they say
"Is she anaemic yet?"
