Yes I know this has nothing to do with overcrowded Public lands :)
And this is the kind of crap that gets threads locked. Take it somewhere else so people can talk about the OP's issue!

We're trying! We're trying! C'mon man!

So far, we have:

Ask a question: (OP) "I guess the really big question now is...how many of these people will remain out on public lands when/if the pandemic is over? Versus how many will go back to their football games, their house parties, their bars, their shopping malls, and their music festivals?"

Or, maybe summarized, "What is the cause for the increased pressure on public lands?" (accurate?)

Do background research: Need to interview the newbies to public lands. Key question, "why are you here?"

Also need to examine usage data over the years to identify anomalies, like a spike in use.

Also need to call out major changes to the constants that align with anomalies, like a spike in use. Example, normal usage increased 4% year over year. Maybe that aligns with population growth? But, Year X saw a 25% spike in use. That would be an anomaly.

Construct a hypothesis:

Test hypothesis:

Analyze draw conclusion:

Report results:

Let's get started! We need a workspace. Google Slides?

It's a safe bet that public lands will not return to what they were like before. It's also a safe bet that it won't be quite as bad as it is now. People who want true solitude always face the challenge that places change and they may need to shift their location. Of course if you live somewhere with no cities anywhere near by, maybe things don't change fast enough to affect you. But maybe that beautiful forest burns or something else changes.

So if you can't go with the flow, you just have to adjust your location. I understand that is easy for me to say because Oregon is the fifth state I've lived in and so I'm not in a position of leaving behind some place I've gone to since I was a kid. But nonetheless, I think that's how it works. If you require certain conditions and those conditions are not met, fair or not, you have to adjust.

But we will be happy to read your complaints in the process. :D

But seriously...

If people want to debate politics and COVID, there are plenty of other places *ahemfacebook* to go argue with strangers. How about we keep this discussion only about crowding in forests, LNT, etc - if people continue to talk about COVID statistics, whether government is doing the right thing, who is to blame, yadda yadda, the thread will be locked. :)
