Those annoying balloons can have a second life, though: I sometimes use them as trash bags - here's one I filled with old soda and beer cans tossed off trails where I hiked a couple of weeks ago in the Dark Divide:

nice Don

I don't know why you parked your car there, I think you could have got across that ditch :)

(Actually, I do not like driving on rough roads and wouldn't have gone as far as you did)

You guys are right, I wussed out. I should have done the Evel Kenievel thing and gave it a shot at full throttle. Here's what it looked like from just beyond the first photo:

I pulled the lid off a TH garbage can today, and a still-buoyant "happy birthday" balloon escaped. I reached for it, and touched it, but wasn't able to grasp it. Sorry, also wasn't fast enough on the draw to get a pic for Jerry.

Funny things about this:

Shocking that somebody was responsible enough to toss their no-longer-wanted balloon in the trash...but seems like they should have punctured it first.

There's now a happy-birthday balloon out there somewhere that I'm responsible for. Not that I feel guilty; I couldn't have known.
