Longtime lurker here, went a few weeks back.
I will NEVER stay at these campgrounds again, it's just too much.
Storytime guys.
Standard hike, having fun with a good friend, we'll call him John.
About 50 minutes in things get interesting.
The next sequence of events happened over a two minute period and
were pretty bizarre.
John goes off NW behind some brush to take care of some business
and about 45 seconds later I see him 50ft out E, but his clothes
look considerably dirtier than before and his back is facing me. I
immediately tell him "Nice one dude haha" and I get a response from the NW
commenting on how his #2 was nice, and how he appreciated my feedback.
I swivel around E and there's nothing there. By the time John has come back
it dawns on me that his clothes don't really have anything on them, we continue
E and there's a copper-ish smell that hits us like a brick wall. We smell it
for around 300ft or so and it goes away. I mention the dirty shirt thing
and he just shrugs it off and says that's my typical, instigating sense
of humor. I assure him I'm not fucking with him and he just gives me a
weird look and we just laugh it off.
Rest of the trip is pretty uneventful but it's worth noting that the copper
smell is no longer present where I smelled it before.
It's probably around 2 once we hit the sack, and we're each in our own
tarp tents. I didn't wake up all night, but John didn't sleep practically
at all and said around 4:15 there was a coppery smell that didn't go
away for at least a half hour. No footsteps or anything, but the smell
did subside, and it was immediate, not gradual. Never camping there again.
