MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV)
Vandals destroyed a new 911 call box that was installed in case of an emergency in a popular recreation area that has limited cell phone service.
The Salmon Falls Recreation Area call box was installed and wired over the winter. The phone was set to be placed this spring, just prior to recreation season.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that vandals broke the box and post and threw them over an embankment.
Crews are now working to re-install the post and box, while finishing the installation of the phone.
"It is disappointing that the senseless actions of a select few are delaying the installation of a vital and potentially lifesaving tool. Please, if you see someone tampering with, or damaging these phones or boxes, write down a description of the person or get a license plate, and report it to the sheriff's office immediately," said Commander Eric Hlad of the Enforcement Division.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office at 503-588-5032 and callers can remain anonymous.
The 911 call box is part of an effort to address concerns about safety in the area – including Salmon Falls, North Fork Park and Three Pools – which has limited, if any, cell service.

Vandals suck
Apparently it's not just cars vandals like to damage.
Re: Vandals suck
I wonder if they knew what they were destroying. Most likely it wasn't marked/identified yet. Doesn't make it excusable, but at least reduces how evil it was.
I may know a friend who destroyed a "NWFP Required" sign in a fit of rage. *whistles innocently*

Yes, vandals suck.
I doubt they even cared what they were destroying in this case, much less having the foresight to think they might need the emergency box later in their misguided lives.
Several years back, vandals repeatedly destroyed the restrooms along the Clackamas River recreational corridor. So how much foresight does it take to realize you might actually need a restroom facility in the next 4 hours (less if you've been drinking). We're not talking about the top of the gene pool here.

And isolation isn't even a guarantee of safety. Vandals broke into all the cabins at Olallie Lake at some point over the winter...

Re: Vandals suck
wow, I wouldnt think that someone wealthy enough to afford a snomobile would need to break into a backcountry cabin or be of the intelligence level to feel the need to vandalise one...pdxgene wrote:And isolation isn't even a guarantee of safety. Twelve doors were broken and at least one wood stove was missing. The Mt Hood Snowmobile Club went in to secure things. Diane hasn't been out there yet as of two weeks ago..

oh no, thats terrible. Who would go all the way out there to do something like that, seems fishy.pdxgene wrote:Twelve doors were broken and at least one wood stove was missing. The Mt Hood Snowmobile Club went in to secure things. Diane hasn't been out there yet as of two weeks ago..

It was pickup trucks with huge tires. The bozos proclaimed their intelligence by posting photos of their escapade on Facebook. The police got them. The snowmo club appreciates and looks out for the cabins when they visit.
