MAX riding coyote

Post by pdxgene » February 3rd, 2015, 10:38 pm

On a lighter note from some of the more heated debate today....
There's a new video dedicated to the MAX riding coyote that was in the news some years ago...

That's adorable ;) I work swing shift and every few days I see a coyote friend on my off ramp in Milwaukie. They are amazing creatures!

You see Coyotes every few days in Milwaukie? Amazing.

I've seen them a couple times - Portland Golf Club, walking down my street, crossing the highway, on Mt Hood at Dollar Lake - few enough I remember the times.

That video looks like it's posed, as opposed to catching one that just happened. But Coyotes seem to not be that perturbed by humans sometimes...

Per http://www.oregonlive.com/commuting/ind ... video.html, the music video was staged with an animal trainer and rented MAX trains.

Just saw one sitting on the side of Hwy 30, in the industrial area/city edges, waiting for traffic to pass, with this look like "just move along, move along" ;)

Saw one on Hwy 212 near Estacada on Saturday morning. He was particularly beautiful with his bushy winter fur. Almost wolf-like! :)

whats interesting is that it seems like there are more coyotes in N Portland than there are in SW Portland which has much larger natural areas and presumably half the population density...

Open and natural areas give wild animals more places to hide, and less population density reduces the chances they will be seen. I think it is safe to assume that the animals are urbanized due primarily to the availability of food, that hiding from sight is secondary when killing them is tougher in a city with regulations against shooting and trapping.
