Still Creek Guard Station- Where was it?

Post by OregonSurveyor » August 29th, 2019, 6:35 pm

My wife and I spent a good part of yesterday trying to find the ruins of the Still Creek Guard Station.
A USFS map from 1939 shows the GS to be about 8 miles up Still Creek Rd from US-26. At this location we found a short crude pit-run rock road on the north side of the road, but no evidence of a GS.
Another 2 miles up the road, to where a small black rectangle is shown on the 1939 map, just west of the Eureka Peak TH we headed north, crossed the creek and after a good deal of searching we DID find a very deteriorated building; hinges, nails, stove parts. I’m happy to share coordinates, etc. Does anyone know more about the history or location of this Guard Station?
