Well the old photo has to be late fall -- maybe September? It's looking like just permanent icefields up there. My photo from last year was taken in early August, but we had a bit snow year, so there's still a lot of seasonal snow up there that throws it off a bit. But I agree -- I've got some photos of the Snow Dome that I took in the early 80s and it still had crevasses on it. Definitely less ice in those glaciers, now!
@ Chris: I've got some old 1930s shots from Devils Peak L.O. looking toward Zigzag Mountain, and it was entirely burned over, well below the 4,000 foot level (and lower) on the south side. Some of that still shows up on the topos, which are getting quite dated in terms of forest cover. It's due for a fire, too -- the last big one was around 1900.
