... someone has driven up the west side and cut circles in a meadow, crossed the trail and driven up another meadow. That was done the morning I was there or the day before, judging from the freshness of the cuts.
Don, could you please clarify which meadows were affected? For example, were they north or south of the Chinook Trail (or somewhere totally different)? Just curious.

Regardless, though, this is heartbreaking news... a real gut punch. It would be beyond tragic if Silver Star were to suffer the same fate as Bald Butte.

The damage is right at the junction of the Chinook Trail where is hits Ed's trail. A gut punch for sure! There has been a lot of logging lower down in this area and it's possible those who did this got around or had access to the gates there.

Don, thank you for the clarification. Good point about potential access.

Yeah, Steve Jones figured out where they were accessing the Chinook trail from DNR roads. He sent them a nicely illustrated email showing where existing barriers had been breached and where they could put a more effective barrier. I was hoping they would have dealt with it by now.
Is that a baby stroller I see in your photo?
It is! That day I turned it into a family affair. My oldest helped drag branches for the little deterrence structure we built. (I am sure it is long gone)

There goes any hope of my getting to the Sturgeon Rock trail from the west again I fear. "This is why we can't have nice things."

The breach is in the area of 45.76779, -122.26110. They are driving up a new DNR road that goes between Kloochman Butte and Silver Star. Road 1200 should be unaffected. Agreed on why we can't have nice things.

Looking through my email, I have discussed the breaches with the Forest Service. I also asked whether the current contract addresses that problem. I didn't receive a reply to that question.

Steve and I have discussed a joint FoR4109-CTA project to get this fixed. I'm going to move that forward.

I understand. I figure the DNR will gate the entire area and be done with it. Seeing intentional destruction like that I don't know that I could blame them.

Sorry. Not serious.
