Herman Creek Trail downed logs

I saw what I thought was kind of odd Sunday when I was hiking in on the Herman Creek Tr. from Green Pt. Mt. There were at least 3 freshly cut out logs that were crossing the trail about 6 miles out. As I hiked in there then become a somewhat constant barrage of downed logs all the way to 2 miles from the TH. I doubt If anyone toughed the snow coming over from Rainy Lake on the cutoff trail as there’s plenty of downfall on that trail, too. Why would anyone lug their saws over log after log to work their way in from, rather than out towards Cedar Swamp?

These are three of the cut trees closest to Cedar Swamp.

And this is much, but not all of the downfall coming in towards the TH.

Odd, yeah. Maybe they lugged hand saws into the Wilderness, and left those outside the Wilderness for someone with a chainsaw?

That stands to reason, except the large majority of the uncut ones were out in the wilderness area.

A new species of beaver that can cut straight through logs?

An easier way to Green Point Mountain is from the upper Defiance Trail, though I highly doubt that is free of snow, either. Pretty bizarre!

Heh, okay, saw the same thing yesterday! Just crazy, alright!

And how about that MONSTER down on the Herman cutoff? Shades of Bell Creek.

Is the large tree still there, south of Cedar Swamp and before the trail crosses Herman Creek?

Not too bad to walk around though.

I'd like to watch when they cut that. Maybe easier to just re-route the trail.

Boy, I don't know. We turned north at Cedar Swamp, after coming down the cutoff from Green Point. (I'd have to bet it is, though!)
