Old Vista Ridge to Owl Point

We encountered 2 folks on the Vista Ridge Trail yesterday who were almost at the Timberline trail but were in fact looking for Owl Point.

Once again the Forest Service has removed the Owl Point / Old Vista Ridge sign from the beginning of the trail at the wilderness registration box. Determined to stamp out this blatant forest vandalism ;) ..

Hopefully their resistance will be as futile as it has been in past years and a new sign will soon appear ;)

The the regular vista ridge trail, lots of blow down on the first mile from the Wilderness sign but nothing difficult. Lots of old snow and some new snow on the Timberline Trail.

We noticed that last week. By all means, FS, tear down helpful signage but don't bother clearing any of the blowdown on the regular VR trail.... :x

I've heard that the former MHNF recreation manager - the one who was so against the reopening of that old stretch of Vista Ridge - has recently retired. Maybe now the signs won't keep disappearing?

It sounds like there is a story I have missed. Why is/was someone against reopening this trail?

a few years ago some people did some work clearing stuff off the trail, unsanctioned by Forest Service. They've been objecting ever since.

Maybe now that they guy is retired he's got nothing better to do than remove signs.

during the Dollar Lake fire, they made a list of closed trails

This included the Old Vista Ridge non trail :)
