(Other) Eagle Creek #501 - Easy Sign Fix (Oct '08)

Post by Splintercat » February 13th, 2009, 11:51 am

This is a note for a TKO or other trail volunteer planning to hike or ride the Eagle Creek Trail in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness in coming weeks/months, and willing to carry along a socket wrench and a couple of 4" stainless steel hex bolts: there was an OET/TKO project to do quite a lot of maintenance along this trail in 2008, but the wilderness sign has dropped off it's tree and is off to the side of the trail -- I spotted it in June, before the trail project, but apparently it was overgrown by the time the crews came through in the Fall, and not spotted.

The task is simple: reattach the sign to the tree. It's in decent shape, and sitting off to the left of the trail very near the actual wilderness boundary, but still along the section of trail that follows the old roadbed. It's an important marker to maintain, since the trailhead, itself, is unmarked, and the adjacent private timber area is a dirt-bike mecca.

Here's the sign in its current location, unattached:

It's still reasonably solid, and worth re-attaching... at least IMO, that is!
