Cochran Trailhead Driving Direction Errors

Post by markmisky » July 14th, 2015, 3:45 pm

Did the Wolf Creek Trestle Hike yesterday and found some errors in the driving directions. The posted ones are as follows:

1 0.0 Reset Odometer at intersection of highway 26 and Salmonberry Road. Go south on Salmonberry Road.
2 1.2 Turn left on Section 10 Road.
3 3.3 Turn left on Wheeler Road.
4 3.4 Head kind of straight and kind of right on "Firelane Road 2 Rd"
5 3.8 Keep left on Firelane Road 2 at the junction with Ellis Rd
6 5.4 There's a rockpit here. Turn right on to an unsigned road. There's a tree with bright orange paint reading "Hogon"
7 5.7 Follow the road as it hooks to the left around a point
8 8.6 Turn right at an unsigned "T" in a large clearcut filled with Scotch Broom
9 8.7 Pass a couple of side roads and park near the train tracks.

Corrected Should Be;

1 0.0 Reset Odometer at intersection of highway 26 and Salmonberry Road. Go south on Salmonberry Road. Watch out for Rock Trucks! They do not yield to you. You are suppose to have a CB radio on Channel 15.
2 1.2 Turn left on Section 10 Road. White Vertical Marker
3 3.3 Turn left on Wheeler Road.
4 3.4 Head right on "Firelane Road 2 Rd" White Vertical Marker
5 3.8 Keep left on Firelane Road 2 at the junction with Ellis Rd. White Vertical marker.
6 5.4 A "T" intersection. There's a rock pit on your left. More like a hill that has been excavated away some. Turn right on to an unsigned road. There's a tree with faded bright orange paint reading "Hogon". Tree is across the road a bit to your right.
7 5.7 Another "T" Intersection. Follow the road as it hooks to the left around a point. You will be going down hill now. You will see many side "Y" roads on both sides of the road. Remember on the way back to stay on the most worn road.
8 8.6 Turn right at an unsigned "T" in a large clearcut filled with Scotch Broom
9 8.7 Pass a couple of side roads and go straight to the train tracks. If you turn hard right you went too far. There are 2 sets of tracks. The hike starts at the tracks closest to the road/parking. The farther set will take you to an old Caboose.
