Poll/Discussion: Number of posts per page?
Poll/Discussion: Number of posts per page?
Currently we show 10 posts per page. This is a global setting. What would you think about changing it?

Dan - I have no clue if 20 would be better or slow down the page loading... Maybe we could try 20 posts per page for a couple of weeks and then have a vote? Great initiative that you are even thinking about this. Thanks!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Re: Poll/Discussion: Number of posts per page?
Dan, 10 posts per page is pretty much the 'industry' standard, least it seems so on all the message
forums I spam, errrr I mean, post at.
Results per page is a different animal altogether, I always select 'view most results' per page
when that is an option, or 'view 100 results per page' . . .

What do you mean by "results per page?" Like when you are searching?

Just generally online, not PH specific I don't think.Martell wrote:What do you mean by "results per page?" Like when you are searching?
Re: Poll/Discussion: Number of posts per page?
Compared to most forums I visit, PH is very photo-intensive. It seems to me that the bandwidth cost of loading messages is associated with images, and that most of the images are in the first one to at most three messages. The delay is "painful" when I reload a thread's first page to read added posts. I do not know how flexible the software is, but if the first four messages could be loaded as page one and then the next 6 as page 2, followed by 10 thereafter, I think it would be an improvement.
If the only setting is global, well... I punt.
BTW, any improvement would be from a high standard that I fully appreciate. Thank you, Martell.

Hey Martell. I think it depends on the size of the individual posts. I answered "15" but that wouldn't be true when people add longer replies. I just leave it up to you.
Re: Poll/Discussion: Number of posts per page?
I'm a fan of 15, but yes it would be a very cool feature if it would adjust this automatically based on the size of the posts

If it's going to mean that many more images trying to load at a time, forget it. As pointed out above, every time you want to read followups to a trip report with lots of images (which I love), you have to wait for all the images in the OP to load. Really frustrating!

That's a good point. My internet isn't as fast as it could be either.
