How old is too old...

Post by kepPNW » June 26th, 2012, 10:27 am

... for a Trip Report?

I mean, is it basically anything in the last week or so? Or is that just for ones that are primarily communicating current conditions in common destinations, and other reports about more unique locations welcomed with more latitude?

New here. Just trying to get a more long-term view of the general gestalt.

I think it depends... it seems like at least a few people are happy to see a report of any age, even if the conditions have changed, just to see the pictures and hear the story and get an idea for a hike. At least, I've never seen anyone get mad that a TR was posted too late.

Sometimes years-old TRs are posted if it was a special trip.

Cool. That's sorta how I was seeing it, but I had to wonder. I've had a lot of fun just browsing, looking for ideas, myself. But wondered if that was just the newb response, and those who've been around longer were bored with such threads.

(Don't tell anyone, but that avatar was shot in 1983 - probably waaaaay too old, right? ;) )

If the report is 20 years or more old, there's a special forum section called "Travels in Time."

Haha. From your avatar I thought maybe you were about my age. Now I know that you were about that age when I was -4.

My goal is to get back to where that was shot, if not to where I'm looking(!), this fall. Spent the last few decades "being productive," I'm afraid. So, hopefully, I won't be doing any Time Traveling outside my mind in anticipation! :)

Productive! Sucks how a career gets in the way of the things you really want to do, right?

Career, kids, yeah... Well, the kids are all right, but they required a career to feed/clothe/educate/etc. Heh...

Just read your TR on the Wahtum loop. That's where I want/need to be by Sept! Fingers crossed, and hoping the knees hold out! :)

If I get back there, this fall, maybe I'll do a before/after shots thread. (It would be kinda [not!] fun to see how the glaciers compare, now.) Otherwise, I'll probably just stick to what I'm doing to enable getting back there.
