The first time I went this way I messed up and went straight past Carpenter marsh I followed a nice trail and intersected with the PCT. I ran into two guys just when they were cutting off the PCT going the right way so after talking to them I came back that way.
I blame my problem some on daydreaming and the small paper I had with directions in Roy's short hand. I am very familiar with this area but I can see how going here for your first trip up Table could get confusing.

I made it up there today! That is one tough 8 mile hike but it was worth it. Amazing views. On my way, right by where the PCT picks up to parallel the road, I met a pair of hikers who were looking for Aldrich Butte, so I'm beginning to imagine a lot of people spend some time being lost in the unmarked network of roads and trails around there.
