Search function doesn't work for Dog Mountain
Search function doesn't work for Dog Mountain
When I try to search trip reports for Dog Mountain I get this message: "The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: dog mountain". When I try "dog mountain flowers" it shows all reports containing the word "flowers". Is it any easy way to get around this?
Re: Search function doesn't work for Dog Mountain
The problem is to limit the search index sizes there is a limit on how common a word can be. "Dog" and "mountain" are more common than the limit. It's a limitation of the search algorithm. I'll see if there is something I can do.

Re: Search function doesn't work for Dog Mountain
Google will usually beat the built-in search for a site:
Google site:portlandhikers.org "f=8" "dog mountain"
(f=8 selects the Trip Reports forum.)
Google site:portlandhikers.org "f=8" "dog mountain"
(f=8 selects the Trip Reports forum.)

Dan, don't know anything about message board software but I'm wondering if it's possible to have a keywords field much the same way blogs do. If after writing up a filed report there was a keywords box & I wanted my post to be found I'd type in a couple of keywords say, Dog Mountain. Search could then search all Keywords regardless of if they were common or not!Martell wrote:The problem is to limit the search index sizes there is a limit on how common a word can be. Another possibility might be to allow search of all Title words but not body of the post words. This would catch a few errant Dogs but not many.

I've actually been working on a feature that will help with this issue- details coming soon.
