Closed hikes in Field Guide

Post by bobcat » September 28th, 2021, 8:17 am

I thought things would be getting better, but we're up to 150 closed hikes in the Field Guide even with reopenings of Eagle Creek, Trapper Creek, Siouxon Creek, etc. Indeed, I've probably missed a few:

Before September 2017, I think almost every one of these hikes was open!

The wildfire situation is only getting worse, so I'm not surprised. And some of those hikes will probably never reopen.

Ape Cave has been open with a timed-reservation system this past year: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/gifford ... ecid=40393

It's hard to tell if Abiqua Falls is still closed or not, lots of reports on AllTrails, but I know those aren't always from upstanding citizens.

It is wild/sad to see many familiar trails included on this list.

Thank you, naturallog. I was hoping someone would check through this.

Noticed today the barrier was gone from Shepperd's Dell, and the state park site confirms it as open. So there's one "hike" that can be updated.

Wow. That took forever but I suppose they're finally satisfied about the stability of those cliffs. Thanks for the update.

In the Gorge, several trails are currently being worked on: Nesmith Point, Wauna Viewpoint, Oneonta, Wyeth. I'd expect these to open within the next year. In the recent past, I've heard mention of Bell Creek. Nothing yet about Ruckel Creek or Tanner Butte.

Shepperd's Dell has been open since at least September 8th. I figured I was the last to know or I would have said something.
