Done with bears and cougars, time to know about snakes
Are there any poisoning snakes found in trails in Oregon? What should i know about the spices and beyond?

Yes, there are rattlesnakes, mostly on the dry side of the Cascades.gaby wrote:Are there any poisoning snakes found in trails in Oregon?

gaby, throw the snake bite suction kit away. it will do more harm than good.gaby wrote:Hmm no cut n suck method? Hmm so the snake bite kit is not necessary? I ll keep reading but if u have any advice on how to proceed in case of a bite?
In short, you want to stop exerting yourself as much as possible, while finding a way to a hospital as soon as possible. Yup, its the worst case scenario.... so while its important to understand what to do if bit, its as much important to learn how to avoid getting bit.
We covered this subject a while back in a thread you can read here: http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/vie ... 18&t=11215

Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

Ticks! I was bitten twice in the space of three weeks by ticks. One of my buddies at work was just recently bitten by a tick (so was his dog) while he was fishing along the Wilson River. Check out Tom Kloster's excellent blog post about ticks.Peder wrote:Watch out for sasquatch too, Gaby!Eric Peterson wrote:Watch out for ticks too Gaby...
