Thimbleberry
Do thimbleberries, before developing into individual fruits, form an enclosed elongated pod on the stem? Observed at Mt Pisgah this morning, partner thought it was a growth stimulated by insect invasion like oak galls. Wish I could post a photo as nothing came up on inaturalist. Thanks for the input!

Re: Thimbleberry
Definitely sounds like a gall. Check gallformers.org for possible culprits: https://www.gallformers.org/host/1026
Re: Thimbleberry
By the way, the answer to your question was no, they don't form pods as part of their fruiting process.
