Central Oregon bird call

Post by adamschneider » June 8th, 2021, 11:30 am

Anyone recognize this wacky set of sounds?

It's the sort of mechanical-sounding weirdness that I'd expect from blackbirds or grackles, but this was on top of Lookout Mountain in Ochoco National Forest, which is a high-elevation sagebrush meadow (nearly 7000').

There are five separate call sequences (separated by 1-second gaps in the video), but the first call is the best/clearest.

It sounds like a sparrow, Brewer's perhaps?

Others that sound similar to my ear, Lark Sparrow and Vesper Sparrow.

Thanks. Of the ones you posted links to, it definitely sounds closest to Brewer's sparrow.
