Little Hummocks Lizard

Is this a juvenile northern alligator lizard? Doesn't really seem to match photos I've found online, but not seeing anything else matching even remotely closer. Hopefully the leaves and litter provide some scale. Dude wasn't more than 8" long or so, and not much thicker than a pencil.

It does look like an alligator lizard. Did you browse the photos on CaliforniaHerps.com? They might have photos of young ones.

I wasn't aware of that site, thanks! I'm leaning now towards that being what it was, from photos on this page...

Something else I'd read implied the one we saw was small for the species, but that page also says...

E. c. principis is a small subspecies, usually less than 4 inches long (10.1 cm.)

...which would meant this one was actually pretty hefty. Maybe I misjudged length. Sucker was quick! Hmmm...

Yes, it was some photos from that page that pushed me towards believing that's what was seen. Thanks again! :)
