strange ice formation at edge of lake

I'm going with the explanation that you are seeing the formation of a new glacier. :)

It is rather peculiar to see a slab of ice with such a defined edge. Even if the lake water had dropped, I would have expected to see a tapered edge (longer on the top than the base).
