Second plant is a Rhododendron.

Re: Plants on the coast
I don't think that's a rhododendron; rhodies don't have toothy leaves. Maybe a wax myrtle?
Re: Plants on the coast
There were many of those around, some with tons of fruit on them. I'll have to try some next time.retired jerry wrote: ↑September 20th, 2018, 6:43 amfirst one looks like evergreen huckleberry, I eat them
I've seen quite a few rhododendrons, including exotic ones, and I thought this was different too. Wax myrtle seems more likely I think; thank you. Here's a wider angle of the same plant.adamschneider wrote: ↑September 20th, 2018, 8:43 amI don't think that's a rhododendron; rhodies don't have toothy leaves. Maybe a wax myrtle?
Any ID for the mossy stuff in the last photo of the first post?

Well, it's definitely a lichen. Try browsing around on WildflowerSearch: http://wildflowersearch.org/search?olds ... %3Bcat%3AL

Cladonia rangiferina - reindeer lichen. A common circumpolar species.

Thanks bobcat. I saw something quite similar in the gorge the other day and had to laugh that this seemed exotic when I was at the coast. However in the dunes there was quite a carpet of it which seems different than the clumps or mounds I saw in the gorge. Are the dark tips in the middle of my photo spores?
