I honestly have no friggin' idea what left this behind. But I'd sure like to know!

Looks like it might be a vegetarian. If not, there could be red flecks of hiking shoe in there at some point.
Re: What a load of...!!!
Haha! Yep! At first glance I thought they were hairy, though on (somewhat) closer inspection it definitely appeared to be grassy. But, my goodness... The size of that pile would do a buffalo proud!

Bigfoot!
Re: What a load of...!!!
That is typical bear poop - lots of "pieces", like this.
The only time their poop is not in pieces is in the fall when they've been eating berries, like this... This photo was taken where there are both grizzly and black bear, but the tracks show it was black bear...
I know that's more info than you asked for Karl. Am I mansplaining you?
See the toe of my boot for scale. In your photo it looks like it was eating... bear grass. The only time their poop is not in pieces is in the fall when they've been eating berries, like this... Hey now! I can still buy off the rack...
Yeah, sure is right-sized and -shaped. Thought the color was off, but maybe that just indicates it's been there awhile? Another early-May load from a few years ago...

That late-summer scat I am definitely familiar with. Suckers always seem to beat me to the good stuff...

Pro tip
It's good advice that hikers wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle the bears that aren't expecting them. Hikers should also to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear.
It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Hikers should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Black bear poop is smaller and contains a lot of berry seeds and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear poop has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray.
