I recorded some odd calls from the woods a few years ago. I posted to xeno-canto for input. Didn't get much, and nothing offered with any confidence.

The recording requires very good headphones. There is a "whoop" of sorts, then a knock. The whoop was repeated 6-8 times in 20 minutes or so. There was one response which has at least 2 apparent syllables. My first thought was "cattle drive." There are no cattle there and no cattle drive would be legal, but the vocal is akin, in person, to what I've heard stock-drovers use to command their stock dogs.
What bothers me is the amount of reverb and the lack of "rasp". I'm not comfortable with any answer I've gotten so far. Each of my so-called experts offers an opinion that another one has flatly dismissed.
