Photo Art Gallery

Post by Splintercat » December 27th, 2015, 4:38 pm

Thought I'd start a gallery thread for photo art. I stumbled across this definition of "photo art", so for the purpose of this thread I'll define it as follows:
Photo art is taking a photograph, almost always one I have taken with my camera, and changing it into something else.
To get things rolling, here are a couple of photo art images that I made from photos taken in the past couple days using Photoshop:

This one I will call "Vincent Van Tamanagogh Falls" for obvious reasons:

...and here's an image from a couple of years ago, taken on Mt. Defiance -- I'll call this one "Defiant Dreamscape":

Okay, your turn! Anyone else making their photos into something else..?

I used to do some "artistic" photo modifications several years ago, but I haven't done much of it recently. Generally, I use multiple layers in Photoshop and combine them to create something new. Sometimes I combine multiple photos and sometimes I combine a photo with a newly created "painting" layer to make very specific changes to the image. If nothing else, it makes me spend a lot of time looking closely at the various elements of each photo.

Sometimes I have tried to mimic a particular painting style, usually watercolors:

One effect that I particularly like is combining photos of nature with photos of various textures, such as fabric, rice paper, rock or concrete:

And sometimes I have tried for something more impressionistic, such as trying to emphasize the feeling of a sunny and windy day in a field of wildflowers:

In more recent years, my "artistic" efforts have generally involved looking for abstract scenes and images in nature rather than relying on Photoshop, such as this shot of a reflection in a river with no Photoshop modifications or adjustments whatsoever:

These are rad.

Try some long shutter speeds hand held... you'd be surprised what you get!

You can google discount codes and get it cheaper.
Like the code "123photographer" and save 15% (84.99 instead of 99.99)
