Re: file size for posting photos
Ok that second test didn't work. I tried deleting all the code up to the end of the first URL as someone suggested so I could add my own caption, but the image doesn't show. I am probably making this more complicated than it need be.....

You had the opening and [img] tags, but you need to close t ... he closing tag, and you'll probably be fine.outdoorfoodie wrote:Ok that second test didn't work. Re: file size for posting photos
I was under the impression that the forum limits the displayed width of externally hosted images, and have vague memories of the dimension limit was 800 pixel, and is now 1000 pixels. Obviously the ph.org server is not in a position, financially or logistically, to resize the image files, so TRs with lots of huge externally hosted photos are going to load slooooowly, yet the user will see only small versions unless they right-click -> view-image on selected images. Of course I could be wrong about all of this. Probably am. If not I suggest the following courtesy:
Code: Select all
[url=http://your.host.com/image.big-size.jpg] [img] http://your.host.com/image.ph-size.jpg [/img] [/url]

They're still constrained to 800px. Easy to measure in a reply Preview that contains an image reference. Here's one that embeds a 1024px wide JPG:mcds wrote:I was under the impression that the forum limits the displayed width of externally hosted images, and have vague memories of the dimension limit was 800 pixel, and is now 1000 pixels.
If you right-click, view-image, you'll see it's a bit bigger than as displayed.
Yeah, that's almost what Flickr does by default. Instead though, the link is to a page that gives you many more options than just the bigger image. I sort of broke it down in this post: http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/vie ... 60#p142260mcds wrote:I suggest the following courtesy:
