Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor)

Post by Born2BBrad » October 16th, 2013, 8:29 pm

There is free software called Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor) that combines photos together, as long as each photo has part of another photo in it.

Here is a link to where you can download it:
http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/ ... s/ivm/ice/

Thanks to Peder for turning me onto this software.

Below are my first composite images from the Mt. Whittier area:

Wow, did you upgrade your camera or what! Great pix!

Where's the TR?

I did get a new little point and shoot camera, almost the same as the one I had before.

Since Adam Schneider did a TR of the Whittier loop the week prior, I didn't feel writing a TR would have has much of an impact. Plus I was tired and time was limited.

But man, I am impressed by that free ICE software. The pics get stitched together so seamlessly, and with the curvature almost removed completely.

I've been using ICE for a while and I've always been pretty happy with it.

Credit goes to Karl, who told me about MS ICE!

One trick I use: After taking several or many pictures to stitch together, I take a picture of my legs (!). That way, when I go through my pictures, I know that there is a series of pictures for MS ICE just before the "leg" photo.
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…

I like that idea! Sometimes I really puzzle at where they start and stop. (Maybe I should shoot a left leg and right leg shot to bookmark the ends! :))
