Several of us PH members have used Flickr for organizing and sharing pictures. I just found out that Flickr did a major facelift in the way users can use the site.
For reasons I don't want to get into, I want to find an alternative photo sharing website, as I am not pleased with the new Flickr.
Here are some requirements:
- Simple to use
- Ability to group photos into sets
- Smaller thumbnails of pictures
- Something stable, meaning that won't change too much or go away
- Have the ability to have the photos be linked within a PH trip report
- Large capacity of many MB of storage
- No advertising (I'd rather pay to not have any)
Thanks for any advice. I'm sure I'll get many suggestions, so don't be hurt if I end up using something else.

Re: Flickr Alternatives
Hey Brad, somebody asked the same question about a month ago, here is a link to that thread:

My reasons for using smugmug.com are outlined there.
Good Luck.

I should have seen that post, but I didn't look down far enough. I'll add any comments on that one. Too bad I can't delete this one.
Thanks,
Brad

Re: Flickr Alternatives
Brad, hopefully you see this even though this reply is a bit late. Flickr is still the same, you can choose between the new or old interface. I thought the same thing as you did a few months ago, "Hey, what happened? This thing is screwy now!" I was going to switch from my pro account to smugrug, shutterfly, photobucket, etc Then I found out that you can switch to the old interface where everything is the same.
I believe, just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click settings, and go from there. Hopefully this is helpful.

Re: Flickr Alternatives
I bailed on photobucket with their last redesign. They completely broke just about anything I cared about. Moved over to Flickr. So I'm curious, what do you get with a Pro account that makes it worth (assuming here) paying for? I haven't found any significant limitations on the free one, yet. Thanks!forestkeeper wrote:I was going to switch from my pro account to smugrug, shutterfly, photobucket, etc

Re: Flickr Alternatives
Flicker no longer has any paid accounts, I believe all their services are free now. I was annoyed because they made the change shortly after I paid for my annual account dues. However I have gotten used to the new interface, and I like it just fine. I think it's a good product for free.

Re: Flickr Alternatives
Ahhhh... No wonder I couldn't find any limitations!
I've really come to appreciate it, as well. Just a couple things that irritate a bit. One thing that's still a PITA is that I can't truly replace one photo with another, without it regenerating new links. Also wish there were a way to keep pics out of the Photostream but still link to them.
Otherwise, I'm very happy presently.

Thanks Will, I'll have to check it out when I get home.
I just don't like the new look of Flickr. I can get used to change, but not when it not for the better.

Re: Flickr Alternatives
Karl, I'm not sure if what Stephanie says is true or not, but I still have a pro account with unlimited downloads and add free. I did have a free account last year but decided to go pro. Flickr did make a few changes but I opted to stay the same. I pay $29.95 every three months. Smugrug is super too, but I'm waiting till I get a little better at my compositions before I use them.
