Another which is better photo set

Post by AlexanderSupertramp » November 23rd, 2008, 10:42 pm

Inspired by Charley's use of the forum, I would like to employ the opinions of the seasoned viewers of photo that frequent this site :D. I have one space left for my family calendar, and I'm torn between these two. Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

Adam

Hey Adam,

Both are great pics. I like #2 best. The mountains have a bit more detail. Plus I like the color of the trees in #2. The color of the water in #1 is fantastic though. Tough choice

I prefer No. 1. The rim on the far side seem to be exposed better in number 1.

If you can pull out the detail on the far rim and lighten it, number one is number one. A more balanced composition.

I prefer # 2 - but I am no expert!

#1 by all means. If you have some good digital software maybe draw out a little bit more detail from the far ridge.#1 is the best regardless,in my minds eye!

I like #1 better, it follows the photographer's "rule of thirds" more, a well balanced composition. I also like the exposure of it better, the bottom one seems to need more contrast. Crater lake is hard to decide how to shoot and crop photos to best show off the grandure of it!

Family calender...hmmmmm.....nice gift idea Thanks!

Your picture one has a sense of depth and mystery about it that two lacks.

Two does have better visual detail but looks a little flat.

I will second others comments about brightening the exposure on one. Perhaps two was overprocessed - excess dimming of highlights and brightening of dark areas does that. One of my favorite excesses too. Try more contrast or use the levels dialog more instead. And selecting an area in Photoshop will allow doing this to that area only.
....where does that trail go?
