Basically, baby food is just some food that has been ultra-pureed to the smooth consistency of a cream soup. It's probably blander than most adults would prefer. Other than the squeeze pack packaging, there's nothing special about it unless you have no teeth, like a baby. :)

Also, since it's ready to eat, it's not dehydrated - ie, it's heavy for no reason.

I have a friend who likes to bring baby-pureed fruit on her rock-climbing trips, because it's a way to have fruit without worrying about it getting squished. But not pureed meat... yuck.

The question is why baby food? Packaging and convenience? Don't want to stop? Poor dentition?

There are high nutrition squeeze foods made for adult athletes on the go. I like Trailbutter:

they're only $1.
And there's the answer as to "why": you can't price-gouge babies like you can backpackers.

(Another affordable pouched shelf-stable food is Tasty Bites lentils.)

If you're really into pouching your food, you can get empty pouches and a filling station for pretty cheap. I got one to make liver puree for my baby when he was young and it worked well.

Infantino Squeeze Pouches, 4-Fl Oz,50 count - $16.89
