Doen't appear to be on the iPhone app store.
Sorry, thought you were asking about Android, which is all I'm familiar with. But given the frequency of the term "iOS" on this page, it certainly exists.

Yeah, that's why it confused me that I couldn't find it. Nevertheless, I just downloaded the state of Oregon into Gaia in low res, that's a pretty great idea. I always do my map downloads in the highest resolution and it never crossed my mind to do the whole state in low res. That will be a nice backup. I'll do Washington next in a separate file.

Also...the other nice thing that makes Gaia valuable (at least for me) is the Apple Watch integration. It's pretty nice to have the hiking data at a glance on the wrist. I know that's not for everyone, but I appreciate it.

Wow, thanks for the heads up Karl. I don't know Caltopo had made an app! This should save some steps generating PDF maps for Avenza! :)

The CalTopo app is nice. However, you can't download maps to a SD card for offline use when you don't have a signal. You have to open the map you want to use on the app before you go, so that it caches in internal memory on the phone. This is a problem for me because I have an older phone with a small amount of internal memory left. Also, I have had problems with the cached maps displaying while using the app, especially when I try to zoom in to reference something. So, I still make maps to use on Avenza as well. Edit: I am just talking about using it for free, without a yearly subscription to CalTopo.

I have an older Android phone that I use for hiking and downloaded the Caltopo app and noted that as well. You can "save" the tiles for offline, just not to the SD card. Maybe that is a tweak they will add when they take the app out of beta? If you don't have space for lots and lots of tiles, you could just add/remove the ones you need the night before - isn't that the same deal with the current version of Avenza, since the free version only allows a couple of maps? (I have the older "PDF Maps" version that allows unlimited maps - I don't allow the app to update to keep it that way. 8-) )

What's the last version that doesn't have the restrictions?

I couldn't tell you which version was the last, but I have 1.7.3.

They have it as a low priority right now, as they feel that "most phones" don't support an SD card! Please, add your voice to this request!
